Evening Leader

Busy year for rescue service as it smashes callout record

SEARCH and rescue workers went out on double the amount of emergency calls in 2007, making it the busiest year since the team was formed.

13/12/07 Thanks very much to Border Beds who donated the Balloon Race prize money.

November 2007

26/11/07 Thanks to the staff and customers of the Carlton Club in Shotton whose collection box raised £21.41 for the Team.
26/11/07 Used printer cartridges and old mobile phones donated to the Team helped raise another £7.50.

Ballon Race Update
The winning abllon of the NEWSAR Balloon Race travelled 233.47 miles to Diss in Norfolk, second balloon went as far as Snetterton, Norfolk 229.79 miles and third balloon went to Claypole Nottinghamshire, 141miles

The ballon race was held at the Llangollen Balloon Festival on 1st and 2nd September 2007 and raised £1982.96 for the Team. Thanks very much to all those who contributed towards this total, the organisers Xuberance and to Air Products and Border Bedrooms and Beds who sponsored our Balloon Race.

The Team provided first aid cover to Taith y Dathlu which was a walk to the top Moel Famau celebrating the National Eisteddfod, being held in Mold in August 2007. Around 300 people took part.

As part of their training for the Long Distance Cycle Challenge , team members Heather and Ann were turbocyling at Blacks in Broughton Retail Park. Whilst there, they raised £31.20 so thanks to the staff and customers.

The Team organised and took part in a weekend exercise in the Llanrhaedr ym Mochnant area. The exercise was attended by representatives from Cheshire SAR, Dyfed Powys Police, Cheshire Police and NWMRA and organisations such as North Wales Police and the RAF were also involved.

  The Team is organising a weekend exercise on 8-10 June in the Berwyns. Photos and information will be posted after the event.
  We will be at Broughton Shopping Centre over the weekend (5 – 6 May) so if you want to find out more or speak to Team members, come and see us there.
  We would like to welcome the 2007 Aspirants who will be attending their first session with the Team tomorrow.
