1st balloon ended up in Soye which is close to the French / Swiss border 747 miles
2nd prize balloon ended up in Broadstairs in Kent - 271 miles

NEWSAR received a Commendation from Richard Brunstrom, Chief Constable of North Wales Police which recognised the Team’s ‘much valued support to North Wales Police in continued voluntary service, both past and present, in rescuing and searching for persons in distress on the mountains and other parts of North Wales and in so doing, often exposing themselves to risk and danger for the benefit of the community for no reward other than the satisfaction derived from helping others.’

During Hune 2009 will see 3 Mountain Rescue Team Members from North Wales travel on a round trip to Yosemite to raise funds for NEWSAR, SARDA Wales and the Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team

The 3 mountain rescuers intend to tackle the Half Dome a 27km (17mile) hike classed as very strenuous and involving 1500m (4800ft) of ascent and descent to a mountain peak in the Yosemite national park in California.

Why 360 - the 3 participants will be 60 years old and will have amassed 120 years involvement with UK Search & Rescue between them.360/3

01/01/09 Thanks to Alex, Jeanette, Amy, Lynn and Beth from the Physio Department at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Gobowen for braving the Tegid monster when they swam Bala Lake raising £962 for the Team. This money will go towards defibrillators for NEWSAR
01/01/09 Happy New Year

New Base for NEWSAR

Thanks to Liverpool City Council and Kingswood, NEWSAR now has its first long term base. At the beginning of June, we moved into a building located at the Colomendy Centre in Loggerheads which will ensure the long term future of the Team. We are currently in the process of adapting the building so that it fits our needs before hosting a grand opening in May 2009

Thanks to Element 6 in Hawarden who provided us with temporary accommodation from 2005.
