Donation from Clwyd Mountaineering Club

Following an invitation from Clwyd Mountaineering Club, a NEWSAR team member and Supporters Group member went along to the Stamford Gate Hotel in Holywell on Thursday evening (19/1/12) to watch two slide shows of members expeditions.

The first included two trips in the 1970’s to climb Mount Kenya.  It was fascinating to see the changes in equipment and the amount of snow and ice on the mountain, much of which has disappeared in the intervening period.

The second was on a recent climbing trip to the Todra Gorge in Morocco.  Some amazing limestone climbing is available in that area.  There were many spectacular pictures of routes on the 300m high gorge walls.

During the evening the assembled club members kindly took up a collection for NEWSAR which is greatly appreciated.

In December a club member was involved in an unfortunate accident with some loose rock. NEWSAR organised the rescue with the assistance of a Sea King from RAF 22sqn, Valley.  The casualty is expected to make a full recovery following their recent discharge from hospital.

Details of the rescue in December can be found at the page below.
