63/15 – 27/12/15

A combined NEWSAR and Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation Water Team travelled to North Yorkshire to assist with severe flooding in York.

 

62/15 – 26/12/15

The Team assisted the Welsh Ambulance Service at Corwen and St Asaph by providing 4X4 vehicle assistance and Swift Water Rescue Technicians

 

61/15 – 26/12/15

The whole Team was placed on standby following concerns about rising water levels, particularly in the St Asaph area.  With the exception of team members at incident 62/15, NEWSAR was not deployed and the Team was stood down later that night, but remained in a state of readiness for a further two days.

 

60/15 – 23/12/15

The Team’s Swift-Water Rescue Technicians were put on standby to respond to the threat of flooding from an adverse weather event (Storm Frank) expected to arrive in the UK on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

 

59/11 – 22-12-15

The Team assisted police with a search for a vulnerable missing person in the Acrefair area.  The missing person was later discovered out  of the search area.

 

58/11 – 20/12/15

NEWSAR was called out to Trevor Rocks, following reports of a woman with a serious leg injury.  The Team attended and assisted the crew of HM Coastguard helicopter from St Athan with a winch evacuation.  This was the first time the Team had worked with the new AW-189 aircraft – the usual S-92 Coastguard helicopter from Caernarfon was already deployed on a separate incident in Snowdonia.

 

57/11 – 5/12/15

The Team was contacted by the police following a report from a mother that her son had not returned home from a walk up Moel Fferna – the son turned up safe and well before the Team was called out.

 

56/11 – 5/11/15

A combined NEWSAR and Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation Water Team travelled to Cumbria to assist with severe flooding in Appleby and Carlisle, following Storm Desmond.

 

55/11 – 2/12/15

NEWSAR members responded to a request for assistance from an asthmatic woman without her inhaler, near Loggerheads.  The woman was located and evacuated to the road head to meet an ambulance.

 

54/15 – 21/11/15

The Team was placed on standby for possible assistance to Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation, but no further action was required.

 

53/15 – 21/11/15

The Team was called out to search for a vulnerable missing person from Glan Clwyd Hospital.  The person was later found safe and well at their home address.

 

52/15 – 15/11/15

As the search in the previous incident (51/15) was commencing, the Team was asked to assist with a search for a vulnerable missing person in the Wrexham area – a NEWSAR search manager was able to give advice to the police before travelling to attend the Bala incident.

 

51/15 – 15/11/15

The Team was asked to search a large area of woodland near Bala following a report of a quad-bike rider who had not returned from a rally.  Sadly, the body of the missing person was found during the course of the search.  NEWSAR members remained on the scene through the night and into the next morning to assist the police accident investigators.  Our thoughts are with the man’s family.

 

50/15 – 15/11/15

NEWSAR received a call for assistance from the Welsh Ambulance Service to help evacuate a casualty with a broken leg at Llyn Brenig dam – the ambulance crew were able to evacuate the casualty without help and the Team was stood down.

 

49/15 – 15/11/15

The Team ‘first responder’ received a call at 2.20 am reporting a sighting of two distress flares seen in the area of the White Water Centre near Bala.  No further information was available and the Team was not called out.  False alarm with good intent.

 

48/15 – 9/11/15

NEWSAR attended a search for a vulnerable missing person in the Llangollen area – the search area included part of the River Dee which was in flood following heavy rain and team Swift Water Rescue Technicians were used to search the water.  The search was continued the next day, but without result.  Sadly, two weeks later the missing person was found deceased several kilometres downstream of the initial search area.  Our condolences and thoughts go out to the man’s family.

 

47/15 – 8/11/15

The Team searched all night in the Whitchurch area for a vulnerable missing person – the person was found safe and well outside the search area.

 

46/15 – 1/11/15

The Team was called out to assist a 65-year-old woman with a serious leg injury at Cwm Tydi near Llantysilio Mountain.  The casualty was evacuated by a local farmer as the Team was being deployed.

 

45/15 – 30/10/15

NEWSAR was requested to assist the police search for a vulnerable missing person in the Wrexham area – the missing person was found nearby, safe and well.

 

44/15 – 29/10/15

The Team was placed on standby following a report of two elderly women who were suffering from shortness of breath after walking up Moel Arthur.  A NEWSAR member who was nearby met the women and handed them on to the Welsh Ambulance Service.

 

43/15 – 16/10/15

The Team was called out to a report of a young man with a back injury, following a fall in the Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog area.  Members attended the scene and the casualty was evacuated by the HM Coastguard helicopter from Caernarfon.

 

42/15 – 14/10/15

The Team requested support from SARDA Wales following a report of a vulnerable missing person at Glan Clwyd hospital – the missing person was found safe and well before search dogs were deployed.

 

41/15 – 27/9/15

NEWSAR responded to a report of a 55-year-old man with a serious leg injury near to the radio mast above the Horseshoe Pass.  Team members treated the casualty at the scene then transported him to Wrexham hospital.

 

41/15 – 25/9/15

NEWSAR was requested to assist a woman in a walking group who had broken her ankle in the Trevor Rocks area.

 

40/15 – 20/9/15

The Team was called following concerns for a vulnerable missing person in the Llangollen area.  They were located safe and before team members deployed.

 

39/15 – 18/9/15

NEWSAR was asked to assist the Welsh Ambulance Service with a 4X4 vehicle to evacuate a female casualty with a lower leg fracture, in a difficult to access location near Abergele – Team members attended but were stood down when an Ambulance Service 4X4 evacuated the casualty.

 

38/15 – 17/9/15

The Team assisted the police with a search in the Abergele area for a vulnerable missing person.  We were assisted by RAF Valley Mountain Rescue team.  The missing person was located safe and well by RAF MRT members several hours into the search.

 

37/15 – 14/9/15

NEWASR was called out to assist with a search for a vulnerable missing person near the Horseshoe Pass – the person was found safe and well and their condition was assessed by team members.

 

36/15 – 7/9/15

NEWSAR was requested to assist with the rescue of a man with an ankle injury at Rodney’s Pillar near Oswestry – a local gamekeeper evacuated the casualty by quad bike and the Team was stood down.

 

35/15 – 6/9/15

The Team assisted the Welsh Ambulance Service with the rescue of a mountain biker with a serious leg injury in a difficult to access location near Corwen – the cyclist was transported by team members to a safe landing area and evacuated to hospital by Air Ambulance.

 

34/15 – 5/9/15

A report was received by the Team of a red flare seen in the area of Nant y Frith – following investigations it was decided this was more likely to be a Chinese lantern.  False alarm with good intent.

 

33/15 – 5/9/15

The Team was asked to assist in a search for a vulnerable missing person in the Abergele area, found safe and well while the team was deploying.

 

32/15 – 31/8/15

The Team received a report of a walker hearing cries for help.  The incident location was found to be outside NEWSAR’s area, and the incident was passed on to Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team.

 

31/15 – 17/8/15

NEWSAR was asked to assist the Welsh Ambulance Service to rescue an unconscious man at Dinas Bran, Llangollen.  Team members attended and assisted with the rapid evacuation to hospital by the Coastguard helicopter from Caernarfon.  Sadly when he reached hospital he was found to be deceased.  Our sympathy is extended to his family and friends.

 

30/15 – 8/8/15

The Team was asked to assist the Welsh Ambulance Service to evacuate an injured mountain biker near Moel Fferna in the Berwyn mountains – the casualty was evacuated by HM Coastguard helicopter from Caernarfon.

 

29/15 – 7/8/15

The Team was asked to assist the police with a search for a vulnerable missing person in the Rhosllanerch area.  The missing person was found safe and well by the police, and the Team stood down.

 

28/15 – 5/8/15

NEWSAR was asked to attend an incident at Pont Caletwr, to assist a 16-year-old female in a gorge scrambling party – the young woman had a significant knee injury.  Enquiries by a Team search manager revealed that the location information initially given was ambiguous and could refer to several places in North Wales.  It was quickly realised that the location was out of the NEWSAR area and the incident was passed on the Aberdyfi Search and Rescue Team who evacuated the casualty.

 

27/15 – 15/7/15

The Team was requested to assist in the search for an elderly man missing in the Rossett area.  He was found safe and well shortly after the team deployed.

 

26/15 – 15/7/15

The Team was requested to assist the Welsh Ambulance Service to evacuate a 12-year-old girl with an ankle injury at Dinas Bran. She was given first aid and stretchered down the steep slopes from the castle to an Ambulance.

 

25/15 – 2/7/15

NEWSAR was asked to assist the police with a search for a vulnerable missing person in the Mold area – the missing person was found later by the police, safe and well.

 

24/15 – 21/6/15

The Team received a report of a man with head and hip injuries following a fall from a wall at Dinas Bran, Llangollen.

 

23/15 – 31/5/15

NEWSAR was asked to search for a vulnerable missing person in the Mold area, but was stood down before being deployed when the person was found by police.

 

22/15 – 24/5/15

The Team was asked by police to assist with a search for a vulnerable missing person near the Flintshire Cheshire border.  Sadly, the person was found deceased by Cheshire Police, and the Team assisted with the recovery of the body.

 

21/15 – 14/5/15

NEWSAR was asked to help the Welsh Ambulance Service with a 70-year-old woman with an ankle injury.  Team members moved the casualty from steep ground to a landing zone where she was evacuated by the Wales Air Ambulance.

 

20/15 – 10/5/15

The Team’s assistance was requested by Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation to help a couple who were stuck on the North Ridge of Tryfan.  A small number of NEWSAR members who were already in the area were able to guide the couple down safely while OVMRO continued dealing with another incident involving an injured walker at Llyn Cowlyd.

 

19/15 – 27/4/15

The Team was contacted by police in the Denbigh area over concerns for a vulnerable missing person.  The missing person was found by police before the full team was called out.

 

18/15 – 20/4/15

NEWSAR was called out to a quarry near Llanarmon yn Ial following a report of a dog having fallen down onto a ledge.  The team was stood down whilst travelling to the scene, following assistance from local workmen in recovering the dog.

 

17/15 – 18/4/15

NEWSAR was called out to assist the Welsh Ambulance Service with a casualty in a difficult to access location near the Horseshoe Pass.  The casualty declined assistance from ambulance service personnel and was helped back to her car by team members.

 

16/15 – 8/4/15

Police requested advice from NEWSAR search managers with regard to a vulnerable missing person, they were found safe and well by Police Officers whilst our search manager was speaking the the investigating Officer.

 

15/15 – 6/4/15

The Team was asked to attend Moel Famau to assist an 11-year-old boy with a severe cut to his knee. He was treated at the scene and conveyed by Team Land Rover to the road where he was taken to hospital by his family.

 

14/15 – 5/4/15

Whilst the Team was attending incident 13/15 on Moel Arthur, reports came in of a second incident at Trevor Rocks near Llangollen.  Two team members re-deployed from Moel Arthur and two more members diverted to Trevor Rocks.  The casualty had suffered serious life-changing injuries in a climbing accident – she was given immediate first aid by the NEWSAR team members and rapidly evacuated by the RAF helicopter from 22 Sqn RAF Valley.  The team wish her well in her continuing recovery.

 

13/15 – 5/4/15

The Welsh Ambulance Service requested help from NEWSAR to locate a casualty with a lower leg injury and believed to be on Moel Arthur.  The Team attended and stretchered the casualty to the ambulance at the road head.

 

12/15 – 3/4/15

The Team was placed on standby following a call for assistance by three women who were lost, cold and wet on the Berwyn Mountains above Llandrillo.  The women were located by means of Sarloc (a location system using ‘Smart Phone’ technology) and directed to a safe path where they were able to self-rescue.  They were met at the road by team members who checked them for signs of hypothermia and transported them back to their vehicle.

 

11/15 – 29/3/15

Police requested advice from NEWSAR search managers for a vulnerable missing person in the Minera area.  Team members then deployed to the scene.  The missing person was located safe and well soon afterwards.

 

10/15 – 19/3/15

The Team attended Ysbyty Clan Clwyd to search for a vulnerable and high risk missing person.  Found safe and well.

 

9/15 – 18/3/15

NEWSAR was called out from the Team’s AGM to search for an elderly and vulnerable missing person – the missing person was located in hospital and the Team cancelled.

 

8/15 – 14/3/15

NEWSAR was contacted following a report of an elderly vulnerable missing person in the Holywell area.  The missing person was located safe and well before the full team deployed.

 

7/15 – 7/3/15

Four NEWSAR members at ‘Oggie Base’ who were providing overnight cover for Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation, deployed to Llyn Cowlyd in the Eastern Carneddau to assist three male walkers who had become exhausted while walking from Aber to Ogwen, and had retreated via Cwm Eigiau.  The three were transported to ‘Oggie Base’ to rewarm before being re-united with their car.

 

6/15 – 22/2/15

NEWSAR was called out to a report of a young woman feeling unwell on the summit of Moel Famau, possibly due to hypothermia – the casualty was assisted down from the summit by members of her group as the Team was being deployed.

 

5/15 – 20/2/15

The Team deployed to Sontley, on the outskirts of Wrexham, to assist the Welsh Ambulance Service to evacuate a female casualty with a hip injury on steep ground.  Team members stretchered the casualty to the road for onward transport to hospital by the Welsh Ambulance Service.

 

4/15 – 15/2/15

The Team was deployed in the Bryn y Maen area to search for a vulnerable person – sadly the person was later found deceased outside the search area.

 

3/15 – 30/1/15

The Team was called to assist two females and a dog stuck in a ravine in Wepre Park – assistance was given to the women by members of the public, and the Team was stood down as it was being deployed.

 

2/15 – 11/1/15

NEWSAR received a call from the Welsh Ambulance Service to assist with the recovery of a male person with a dislocated knee at the summit of Moel Famau.  The casualty was given pain relief and evacuated by team Land Rover before being handed on to the Welsh Ambulance Service at the roadhead.

 

1/15 – 5/1/15

The Team was placed on standby following a phone call from a distressed male diabetic who was lost in the Moel Famau area – the situation was resolved by a NEWSAR search manager, without the Team having to be deployed.
