CALLOUT 98/22: Overdue walker near Moel Famau

Late on Sunday evening North Wales Police requested assistance from The Team regarding an overdue walker in the area around Moel Famau. Our volunteers deployed with three vehicles to the last known location for the man, in the village of Cilcain.
Shortly after we arrived the good news was received that a local person was with the missing walker and he was brought down by Police Officers to our search control vehicle. He was medically assessed by one of our Casualty Care qualified members before being discharged back to the care of North Wales Police. The Search and Rescue Dogs Association (Wales) - SARDA Wales - was also contacted.




This is another clear reminder of how quickly situations can develop in rural and mountainous areas like Moel Famau, even for experienced walkers. What stands out most is the importance of quick reporting and coordinated response between North Wales Police and the volunteer search and rescue teams, because in these kinds of cases time and terrain both play a huge role in how safely a situation can be managed. It’s also interesting how often walkers are reported overdue or become disoriented in this area, especially when weather conditions change or visibility drops unexpectedly, which can make navigation much more difficult than people expect.
