Snowdonia Seven 2014

On Saturday 12th July more than 20 NEWSAR team members travelled to Llanberis to support the 40th running of the Snowdonia Seven.  This fell running event is organised by North Wales Police Officers.  It pits teams from constabularies all around the UK against the rugged Snowdonia mountains.  They have to run a challenging course over seven peaks.

As in previous years, NEWSAR team members acted as marshals for some of the checkpoints and provided some of the First Aid cover.

The day started very fine and warm, but as forecast, it rapidly deteriorated into a wet and windy afternoon.

For more details on the “Sevens” event see their website.

The Snowdonia Seven event also marked the last official role for long standing team member Chris Jones who is moving out of the area.  Chris has been a member of NEWSAR for more than 15 years, serving in a number of important roles, including a long stint as Team Secretary.  Over the years he has attended scores of searches and rescues and has been commended for his involvement in a couple of high profile incidents.

All the current team members wish him well for the future and thank him for his huge contribution in the past.

He is pictured below (2nd left) with colleagues at the checkpoint near Glaslyn on Snowdon.

The other pictures show various competitors as they hurtled down past this spot.
